Perinatal & Prenatal Massage Therapy

Perinatal & Prenatal Massage Therapy

Offered by all Juniper RMT therapists

Pregnancy changes everything about how your body moves, rests, and carries weight. Perinatal massage is designed to support you through every stage — from the first trimester through to postpartum recovery — with techniques adapted specifically for your body as it changes.

Prenatal massage refers to treatment during pregnancy. Perinatal massage covers the full journey: before, during, and after birth. We use both terms because the care we offer doesn't stop at delivery.

Is Massage Safe During Pregnancy?

Yes — massage is safe throughout all stages of pregnancy. This is a common concern, and we want to address it directly. Our therapists are trained in pregnancy massage and will discuss your stage of pregnancy, any medical considerations, and your comfort before every treatment.

If you have specific concerns or a high-risk pregnancy, we recommend checking with your care provider first. We're happy to work alongside your midwife or OB.

What Can Perinatal Massage Help With?

  • Upper body tension and discomfort from postural changes as your centre of gravity shifts

  • Hip, leg, and lower body heaviness from carrying extra weight

  • Lower back pain and sciatic nerve pain — the shooting discomfort that can travel from your lower back down through your legs and feet

  • Swelling in the hands, arms, legs, and feet

  • General fatigue and stress, especially in the weeks leading up to your due date

  • Postpartum recovery and tension from feeding, carrying, and adjusting to life with a newborn

What to Expect

Before your treatment begins, your therapist will talk with you about your pregnancy, how you're feeling, and what you'd like to focus on. Together you'll decide on the best approach for that session.

We offer two comfortable positioning options:

Face down (prone) — We have a specially designed belly pillow with cutouts for both your belly and chest, allowing you to lie face down safely and comfortably. For many pregnant patients this is a welcome relief from the constant pull of belly weight on the lower back — something that's hard to find anywhere else.

Side lying — If prone positioning isn't comfortable for you, your therapist can perform the full treatment with you lying on your side, fully supported with pillows.

You're always in control. Positioning, pressure, and focus areas can be adjusted at any point during your treatment.
