Direct Billing
Direct Billing
We're pleased to offer direct billing as a convenience for our patients. This means that in many cases, we can bill your insurance provider directly so you don't have to pay out of pocket and wait for reimbursement.
What Is Direct Billing?
Normally, when you use extended health benefits, you pay for your treatment and then submit a claim to your insurance company yourself, waiting for them to reimburse you. With direct billing, we submit the claim to your insurer on your behalf at the time of your appointment — so in many cases, you only pay the difference, if any, right then and there.
Insurance Providers We Direct Bill To
We currently offer direct billing to the following providers:
Belairdirect, Canada Life, Chambers of Commerce Group Insurance, CINUP, Coughlin & Associates Ltd., D.A. Townley, Desjardins Insurance, Empire Life, Equitable, Green Shield Canada, GroupHEALTH, GroupSource, ICBC*, Industrial Alliance, Johnson Inc., Johnston Group Inc., Manulife Financial, Maximum Benefit, Medavie Blue Cross, Pacific Blue Cross, People Corporation, RWAM Insurance Administrators, Simply Benefits, SSQ, Sun Life Financial, TELUS AdjudiCare
Not every therapist bills to every insurer on this list. If you have a specific provider you'd like to confirm, feel free to email your RMT directly before booking.
*For ICBC claims, we do not bill directly. Instead, we provide an invoice including your claim number, which you can submit to ICBC yourself for reimbursement. Payment is due at the time of your appointment.
What to Bring to Your First Appointment
Please bring your insurance card to your first visit so we can confirm your name, policy number, and date of birth match what's on file with your insurer. This is especially important if you're covered under someone else's policy — for example, a spouse or parent — since the details need to match the policy holder's information exactly. If this information is incorrect, your claim may be rejected and you'll need to pay out of pocket and submit the claim yourself.
A Few Important Things to Know
Direct billing is an added convenience we offer, but it isn't guaranteed for every visit. A few things are outside of our control:
Not all insurance plans pay benefits directly to the provider — some plans are set up to reimburse the policyholder instead, meaning you would pay at the time of your appointment and your insurer would deposit the reimbursement directly to your bank account.
We don't have access to your coverage details, including how much your plan covers, your remaining annual maximum, or your reimbursement percentage. This information is private between you and your insurance provider. We recommend contacting your insurer directly before your appointment if you'd like to know your coverage details.
Some plans don't allow combining a secondary policy with someone else's primary policy (for example, if you're a dependent on a spouse's plan and also have your own coverage elsewhere).
Most plans don't require a doctor's note for massage therapy coverage, though some do — it's worth checking with your insurer if you're unsure.
If a direct billing claim is rejected for any reason, you'll be responsible for paying for your treatment at that time, and you're welcome to submit the claim to your insurer yourself for reimbursement.
